Franchising 101

What Kind of Franchise Owner Are You?

March 11, 2026 · 4 min read

Franchise ownership isn't one job description. Some owners work behind the counter every day. Others hire a manager on day one and never touch daily operations.

Owner-operator models suit people who want to be hands-on, at least early, and who enjoy being close to the customer. Semi-absentee models suit people keeping a day job during transition, or who want the business to run without them most days. Executive models — common in larger home-service and B2B franchises — suit people who want to manage a team and P&L, not perform the trade themselves.

Before you fall for a brand, get honest about which of these lives you actually want. It will narrow your options faster than budget ever will.
